While confined to dwelling for a number of days not too long ago after surgical procedure, I shortly bored with the repetitive and biased babble (conservative and liberal) on 24-hour news stations and turned to what often is the only factor I discover worth watching: outdated motion pictures on the Turner Broadcasting System’s Turner Classic Movies.

I’m struck by the portrayal of newspaper reporters within the ’30s and ’40s, ranging from cynical and difficult while crusading in the public’s curiosity to sleazy and conniving while pursuing a giant story for the sake of personal ambition. We had a black and white TV in our bedroom as kids in the eighties/early nineties also.
